Frank Worsley’s Voice – A Glimpse Into the Past

This track includes an extraordinary feature — the voice of Frank Worsley, captain of the Endurance and a key figure in this legendary story.

So great to have the real voice of a key character in this historical story.

Born in Akaroa, New Zealand, Worsley’s words near the end of the song describe setting up Ocean Camp with the dogs. Including his actual voice adds an incredible layer of authenticity, and I plan to feature more of him in future tracks. More on Frank >>

Where We Are in the Journey

Historically, we’re at a turning point. The Endurance has been crushed and lost to the ice, leaving Shackleton and his crew stranded in an unfamiliar and hostile environment. With no ship and no clear way home, survival has become the only objective.

Questions like Will the ice hold? What happens if it drifts further from the land?  Must have haunted their minds.

This was their new reality—living on the ice, drifting further into uncertainty.

Creating the Song – A Dramatic Reset

I really enjoyed creating this track. It reflects the crew’s shift from their original mission to a fight for survival. I wanted the music to mirror this pivotal moment, with a dramatic reset in tone and mood.

While working on the song, I read about how Robert Smith from The Cure creates his signature guitar sound using a unique instrument (V1 Fender Bass)—half guitar, half bass. It’s the same kind of guitar John Lennon played in The Beatles: Get Back movies. Not owning one myself, I decided to experiment by tuning my guitar down to a baritone key.  I was really excited when I found out that this tuning worked! This gave the track a moody depth, capturing the gravity of their situation. You can really hear that baritone influence in the lead part about halfway through the song.

The Roli Seaboard provided some epic strings that also helped me add drifting, atmospheric elements that underscore the crew’s transformation into survival mode.

Royalty-Free Release

This track, like the others in the series, is being released royalty-free across social media. Feel free to use it in your posts, share it, and help spread this incredible historical story.

Thank you for listening, Enjoy

Tony
