Who is Tony Parker NESC?
Music has always been part of my life.
For years it remained something deeply personal. I wrote because I loved creating, not because I expected anyone else to hear it.
Everything changed after hearing Dr Wayne Dyer speak in Auckland. One sentence stayed with me:
"Don't die with your music still in you."
Just days later he passed away.
His words became the reason I finally began sharing my music.
Today I create music inspired by stories, places and the people connected to them.
Some projects become intimate instrumental pieces. Others grow into ambitious concept albums combining music, field recordings, spoken word and sound design to create immersive listening experiences.
Among these are ENDURANCE: The Shackleton Odyssey, an 18-track musical retelling of Ernest Shackleton's legendary Antarctic expedition featuring the real voices of Sir Ernest Shackleton and Captain Frank Worsley, and Life in the Sub-Antarctic: Campbell Island, The Weather Station Years, inspired by authentic recordings and memories from one of the world's most remote islands.
Although my projects vary in style, they all begin in the same place.
A story...
A place....
A question....
Or sometimes simply a moment that refuses to let go.
I don't think in genres.
I think in journeys.
If a story needs to become an ambient soundscape, that's where it goes.
If it becomes a rock song, I follow it there.
If it grows into an hour-long concept album, I simply keep listening until the music finds its own shape.
Why NESC?
The name goes back to my school days. My brother and I played in a "band" (if you could call it that) and, inspired by the symbols on Led Zeppelin albums, we designed one of our own. Years later, when I discovered just how many "Tony Parkers" there were in the world, I revived NESC, originally standing for Neon Electronic Sound Corporation, as a way of creating a unique artistic identity while staying connected to where the journey began.
What inspires me
People often ask what inspires my music.
The answer is simple.
Curiosity. People. History. Nature. Conversations. Books. Silence.
Sometimes it's a place. Sometimes a memory. Sometimes an ordinary moment that quietly grows into something much bigger.
The tools change. Technology changes. But creativity has always been at the heart of everything I make.
Whether it's a single instrumental, a song or a concept album, my hope is always the same:
To invite you into a world.
