Into Ocean & Ice

One of the most inspiring moments on this journey into the story of the Shackleton through music project was sparked by a trip my co-producer, Peter Fisher, took to South Georgia last year—on the anniversary of Shackleton’s passing (one year out due to Covid).

At that time we were putting the finishing touches on the double album about sub-Antarctic Campbell Island. But Peter’s adventure to South Georgia added a whole new layer of creative energy to the project.

On that trip, Peter was accompanied by a group of talented artists. Their work is now being exhibited in Auckland, and I had the privilege of attending the opening nights on the 28th and 29th of November at the Into Ocean & Ice Exhibition at Auckland’s Maritime Museum.

Honestly, it was a bit surreal. Hearing music from The Shackleton Music Project playing softly in the background while admiring art inspired by Antarctica and Shackleton’s epic journey was a moment to treasure.

I even got to meet the artists behind the work, and their creations are absolutely amazing. 🌊❄️

If you’re in Auckland, I can’t recommend it enough. Pop in for a look—it’s well worth your time.

A Big Thank you to Auckland Maritime Museum!
