Shackleton Music – Find a Way

Hey everyone,
It’s been a little while since I posted here—things have been ticking along in the background, but we’re now at a huge turning point in the Shackleton story.
The next big chapter is the famous 800-mile boat journey across the Southern Ocean to South Georgia. But before we jump into that, I felt like something was missing… something about the moment before they set off—when the decision had to be made.
In the last track (Escape from the Ice: A Survivor's Story), it was incredible to include the actual voice of Captain Frank Worsley, recorded nearly 100 years ago. It’s still amazing to think we got to hear from someone who was actually there. Not just anyone, either—the captain of the Endurance, and the man who navigated them through that almost impossible crossing.
Find A Way:
The next song I’ve been working on is called Find a Way. It’s not about the boat trip itself, just yet—it’s about what came before it. That moment of knowing you’ve run out of options. They were stuck on Elephant Island with no one coming to rescue them, no way of sending for help, and the rest of the world was too busy fighting a world war to even notice they were missing.
They had to make a choice: risk death at sea… or wait, and almost certainly that would also end in death. It’s one of those impossible moments in history—and that’s what Find a Way is all about. The pressure. The fear. The sheer bravery it took to say: “We’ve got to go.”
I could’ve jumped straight into the next dramatic track about the sea journey, but this part—the lead-up—felt just as important. It’s easy to forget they didn’t know how it would end. We only know it worked because we’re looking back with hindsight. For them, it was just survival mode. One of the many terrifying decisions they had to make at a time.
I’ve also been getting glimpses of some of the songs that are coming after this, especially the big tracks covering the voyage itself and the South Georgia crossing. I’ve been trying to capture those ideas before they disappear (you know how that goes!). Sometimes, creativity like this does not show up in song order.
Anyway—Find a Way is nearly ready, and I’ll let you know as soon as it’s out. It’s a slower, more thoughtful track, but an important one. Thanks so much for listening and sticking with this series—it means a lot.
More soon,
Tony
