The Sky Is Falling
I just wanted to share the story behind my song The Sky Is Falling in my own words.
I wrote this song a few years ago. It actually wasn’t meant to be about global warming at first. It started because there was a huge storm warning on the news — everyone was talking about it. “Big storm coming. Be prepared.”
And I remember thinking… we always pay attention when the weather gets bad, but we ignore all the other signs around us: fires, floods, crazy storms — as if it’s all normal. There’s even that line from the Bible: you can read the weather, but not the signs of the times. That stuck with me. That’s basically the heart of the song.
The title’s a little joke too — like Chicken Little saying “the sky is falling”… except now it kind of feels real.
At the time, Australia and New Zealand were getting smashed with storms and bushfires. Everything felt a bit out of control. So I grabbed the guitar and wrote this.
How It Took Off
To be honest — I recorded this when I barely knew what I was doing with music software. I’d probably do it better now. I even made two versions:
One with news clips — more dramatic.
One without — a bit more radio-friendly.
I didn’t think much of it at the time. But lately, it’s started showing up on Spotify playlists about global warming, and it’s even getting played on radio in the US and other places.
It’s now my most listened-to song on Spotify, which blows my mind.
What It Means to Me
This song isn’t about panic.
It’s about paying attention.
Storms, fires, rising seas — they’re all signs.
And The Sky Is Falling is just me saying,
“Hey… can we please stop pretending we don’t see it?”
