"Campbell Teal."
Hey there,
Today, I want to talk to you about the Campbell Teal and the story behind this track.
This song is more than just music; it's a tribute to the remarkable story of a bird – the Campbell Teal – that once was on the brink of extinction but found its way back from the edge.
The Campbell Teal is no ordinary bird. Found exclusively on Campbell Island. For that reason alone, it was a must-include of this album.
It took a hundred years to find you:
It was thought to be extinct for a staggering 100 years. Imagine that – a bird disappearing from the face of the Earth for an entire century. But then, in 1973, something miraculous happened. A tiny population of Campbell Teal was discovered on Dent Island, a small islet off Campbell Island. It was a moment of hope in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
Tale of Survival:
Inspired by this incredible tale of survival, I wrote the lyrics to "Campbell Teal." The song reflects on the bird's journey from the brink of oblivion to its rediscovery and eventual return to its ancestral home. It's a celebration of resilience, perseverance, and the power of conservation efforts to turn the tide for endangered species.
In the song, the lyrics mention Dent Island, the refuge where the Teal found sanctuary for so many years. I wanted reflect on the long wait – a century of silence – before the Teal's triumphant return to Campbell Island, its true home.
A Call to Action:
But "Campbell Teal" is more than just a song; it's a call to action. It reminds us of the fragility of our natural world and the urgent need to protect it. The story of the Campbell Teal is a testament to what can be achieved when we come together to preserve our planet's precious biodiversity.
This kind of story makes you cherish our planet's wildlife and i hope we keep working together to ensure a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
Catch you later,
Lyrics:
Campbell Teal:
There is an island within an island
It is there on Dent,
You will find the Teal
Little Teal can’t fly from home
Little Teal can’t find the wings
Little Teal, where have you gone?
For 100 years, we thought you’d gone
Wiped away, away from the Earth
It took a hundred years to find you
A hundred years, you were gone
It took a hundred years to find you
Make Campbell home, make it home
It took a hundred years to find you
A hundred years you were gone
It took a hundred years to find you
Now you’re home
Make this home
It took a hundred years to find you
A hundred years you were gone
It took a hundred years to find you
Now you’re home
Make this home
